About

Hi! I am Viraj Deshpande

My ikigai (Japanese word for ‘reason for being’) is learning to create and creating to learn.

In the broadest context, the goal is to seek enlightenment – however you define it

I love learning things that help me express my love for art, technology and statistics. Sometimes I like call myself a “permanent beta”. The idea is to keep learning and keep spreading the things I learn through a creative outlet I call – Data Vizardry.

Here’s my story …

My story begins back when I was an enthusiastic yet shy kid who hated books and studying in general. My mother had taught me to count up to five and I was almost convinced that 5 was the largest number that ever existed. My answer to “How much?” or “How many?” was “FIVE!!!”. Fortunately for me, my parents decided to educate me and now I can finally count up to “FIVE!!!” – Just Kidding!

Fast forward to 2018 when I enrolled at the University of Maryland in their MS-Information Systems speciality masters course where my love for art, technology and statistics would eventually find solace. Initially overwhelmed by the scope and expanse of the course I found my niche in data science and data visualization and it’s allied tools. I took it upon myself to go beyond the curriculum to flex skills that would help me learn and grow.

As a kid who lived through the advent of the dot com era I thought it would be great if I could let people around me know about the things I learn and find fascinating through a blog. A blog that could be a repository of all the things I learn and would provide a comprehensive walk-though of the way I learnt it all.

This process of about 24 long years led to – Data Vizardry.

I love talking about tech, politics, sports, data science and analytics. It would be great if we could connect and ponder over topics that would help us create value for one another. All you’ve got to do is hit the button below!
